Song 03 // Mansions - "Strugglers"
Wait in the car
You can stay till it's over
Strugglers have no home
Year over year do you feel any older?
Honestly I don't
Within the first twenty seconds of “Strugglers,” an entire mood of melancholy is evoked through straightforward, lo-fi drum beats and a progression of hazy notes. It’s the seeming simplicity of this melody that elevates the solemn lyrics from Mansions. Each line floats through the air and upwards toward the ceiling.
Lingering in the air like wisps of smoke.
The notion of growing another year older feels irrelevant this year. But, we all are.
I guess
Who cares
However, looking past the feelings of a soft-spoken doom, our choices are still intact.
Say there's no way around it
Nothing good can last
But it's you and me forever
Yeah it's you and me for good
“Strugglers” is the closing track from Mansions’ first full length album in seven years, “Big Bad.” While the pensive and gloomy lyrics appear to signal off the album on a pessimistic note, it’s still up to us to decide what to do with the time we have. Despite our current physical separations, it’s still us, still you and me.
All those ambitions and goals that we set up for this year. They’re still ours.
I feel the sun exploding
Friends who moved away
We're losing time
Don't have to tell me twice
Time is moving but it’s up to us to take action and decide whether to lose it or make it last.
