Song 11 // Eddie Murphy - "Party All the Time"
My girl wants to party all the time
Party all the time
She parties all the time
2020 is, at long last, coming to an end but the pandemic is not. I started this newsletter as a way to somehow bring back a small note of the feeling of happiness I experience at shows, festivals, and venues. Like many others, I have always found overwhelming joy in watching bands and artists perform live and in dancing to new and old songs across the many venues of Los Angeles. This year brought all of that to a standstill.
However, there was innovation. Some artists, bands, and organizers used live streams to create virtual shows and it helped to bring back some of the joy that we have all missed.
There are many songs I considered for this newsletter to close out the year. While the events of the world are still bleak, there is a glimmer of hope with vaccinations being administered and hopefully, much more in the new year.
So with that slight flash of optimism I wanted to feature this song by Eddie Murphy.
With the world on various stages of lockdown throughout most of the year, we have all missed the parties and celebrations of our loved ones. Birthdays, weddings, graduations, holidays. All to be replaced with video or phone calls and the promise to celebrate, “when it’s safe again.”
So what better way to look forward to those future celebrations than a song by Eddie Murphy, written and produced by Rick James — icons of the era. Straight from 1985, the upbeat melody transports us back to a time of vivid pop colors, retro-futuristic attire, and amusing excess.
Girl, I've seen you in clubs just hanging out and dancing
You give your number to every man you see
You never come home at night because you're out romancing
I wish you bring some of your love home to me
Here’s to 2021 and the dreams of vaccinations via the bold and bright colored 80s.
